Many people, male and female of varying ages, have mounting concerns about their skin, most having spent time and money on department store creams and oils with little to no success.

Thankfully we may have an economical “answer to our prayers” with the quick, easy and effective procedure called Microneedling.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is one of the newest, easiest forms of Collagen Induction therapy, also known as Dermapen, Medical Microneedling or Microneedling.

The compact device is comprised of small tiny microscopic stainless steel needles, used to pierce the upper layers of skin up to 2 millimetres (depending on the needle used).  It can be as effective as Fractional laser, Chemical peels, IPL and other skin rejuvenation techniques without the significant downtime, making Dermapen a very popular treatment. The principle idea behind Dermapen needling is that micro injuries to the skin promote collagen and elastin growth as a by-product to healing. Essentially, as your body heals the skin increases the production of collagen and elastin and this production leads to fresher, rejuvenated skin.

What are the benefits of skin needling?

The procedure is rather versatile and may be used to help treat varying concerns on different areas of the body. These include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Loose or lax skin

  • Acne scarring

  • Scarring & Surgical Scarring

  • Stretch marks.

  • Skin texture and tone

  • Enlarged pores

  • Hair loss or thinning (Hair Growth)

  • Pigmentation

  • UV damage

Results on any treatment may vary per individual as everybody is different and may respond differently to treatments mentioned.

What does skin needling do?

The skin’s natural production of collagen is not a constant or steady supply and as we age starts to slow and deplete. This can cause the skin to develop fine lines, wrinkles, more prominent scarring and not react or heal to its full potential.

Skin needling offers nature a “helping hand” by helping to enhance collagen production and the penetration of skincare concentrates.

The device is applied on the surface of the skin and creates small perforations; as a result the body’s automatic healing mechanism kicks in, believing there is a wound to heal. The healing response of the body helps stimulate the right environment for excess collagen and elastin to be produced.

By combining the procedure with the correct skincare concentrates it may allow the patient to see maximum results.

Are there any side effects?

Skin needling does not involve deep penetration of needles and therefore does not damage the epidermis or surrounding tissue. This means in comparison to other more invasive treatments, it is safer and patients are quicker to heal.

Side effects to expect from skin needling would be minor redness, swelling and bruising, which generally all subside after the first day.

Is the treatment painful?

Everyone’s pain threshold is different; however skin needling does not involve deep penetration of needles, the pain is bearable and not uncomfortable.

We are able to apply a numbing cream to the localised area before the treatment begins, for patients that have a low pain threshold.

Results on any treatment may vary per individual, as everybody is different

and may respond differently to treatments mentioned.
